Search map of the Bhola Island village where the last case of smallpox in Asia was found.
It was believed that the last case of smallpox in Bangladesh had occurred on 14 Sep. Exhaustive searches over the next 8 weeks found no more cases. On 14 Nov, WHO announced that Asia was smallpox-free. On 15 Nov, the eradication programme office received a cable that reported a suspected case on 1440-sq-km Bhola Island.
