A laboratory technician inoculates eggs for vaccine potency testing. The eggs have been marked with reference numbers, an inoculation site free of blood vessels marked, and a small hole made in each egg. Vaccines were tested for potency by inoculation into the outer membrane of fertile eggs. If the vaccine was effective, the membrane would develop characteristic pocks.
