Rewards for reporting confirmed cases of smallpox were distributed at a public ceremony.

Top: A man receives the 250-taka reward. The initial reward was 50 takas, but as cases became fewer and the search intensified, it was raised to 250 takas, and then to 500 takas.

Bottom: Eight-year-old Bilkisunnessa reported the last known naturally-occurring smallpox case in the world. The patient was a 3-year-old girl named Rahima Banu, on Bhola Island.
